Client Background
The hardware already has a market. AI interaction is the key to new service scenarios
Founded in 2016, NUWA Robotics is one of Taiwan's leading service robotics companies, with in-house capabilities spanning hardware, voice interaction, and a cloud development platform. Its products are deployed across education, retail, and healthcare. The Kebbi robot is one of its flagship products and has an established platform and developer ecosystem.
As demand for healthcare, eldercare, and companionship grows, existing customers have started expecting Kebbi to take on more service tasks. Once a robot enters scenarios that call for extended interaction, hardware is no longer the only hurdle. Whether the AI can converse naturally, respond reliably, and work in concert with existing functions now directly determines whether the product can be deployed.
NUWA Robotics already had LLM and enterprise knowledge base capabilities and had worked with several AI technology partners. But home companionship for older adults demands more than long, natural interaction. It also involves health information and risk management, which meant solving three problems at once: conversation fluency, knowledge and response boundaries, and integration with the existing robot platform. That became the starting point for the partnership between NUWA Robotics and Vyin AI.
「We already had a mature robot platform and could see customers asking for more service scenarios. The Vyin AI team did more than supply AI technology. They were a partner who could turn customer needs into product with us. This collaboration also showed us that a mature robot platform can open up many more service scenarios through AI.」
Challenge
The robot has mature hardware, but service scenarios demand more from the AI
Pauses, additions, and corrections make conversations with older adults easy to break
Older adults may speak more slowly and in fragments, often pausing, adding details, or changing topics mid-sentence. If the robot's response is even slightly delayed, they may assume the system did not hear them and speak again. Then, when the robot starts to answer, the two easily talk over each other.
For a companion robot, how natural the interaction feels directly affects whether older adults keep talking to it, and that in turn decides whether companionship and risk alerts can do their job.
Companionship can be casual, but health information cannot be answered freely
General-purpose large language models excel at open-ended conversation, but home companionship for older adults can involve health education, emotional wellbeing, and safety. If incorrect information is taken as professional advice, the risk is far greater than a wrong answer in ordinary customer service.
So the AI must do more than chat naturally. It has to know clearly which information it may answer, which questions it must not judge on its own, and when to guide the person toward professional help or notify family.
The AI must plug into the existing robot platform to form a complete service flow
NUWA Robotics already had complete robot hardware, control systems, voice, expressions, movements, and a development platform. If the new AI capability ran separately from that platform, it would create system gaps and add development and maintenance cost.
Everything from voice input, conversation understanding, and interaction decisions, through to triggering the robot's voice, expressions, movements, and existing functions, had to work together within a single interaction flow.
Solution
Vyin RIS strengthens three critical links: conversation, risk control, and system integration
Better voice handling and shorter waits, so the robot keeps up with how older adults speak
Vyin RIS carries context across turns, handling the additions, corrections, and topic changes older adults make along the way, with no need to start over each time.
Vyin AI also optimized the entire pipeline from voice input and semantic understanding to knowledge retrieval and response output, cutting typical AI response time from about 4 to 5 seconds to under 1 second and reducing the repeated prompts and interruptions caused by waiting.

Establishing expert knowledge and response boundaries to reduce high-risk misinformation
Vyin AI and NUWA Robotics jointly mapped health-education knowledge, risk scenarios and their severity levels, and the scope of what the AI may answer, must limit, or must refer onward.
General health-education questions are answered from verified expert content. Where medical judgment is involved, the AI does not diagnose but guides the person toward professional help. When it repeatedly detects risk signals that warrant attention, it triggers follow-up according to preset rules.
For example, in a public demonstration, when an older adult mentioned chest tightness and shortness of breath, Vyin RIS followed up with concern, offered appropriate reminders or guidance based on preset rules, and flagged the potential risk in the back office so caregivers would take notice. In a suspected scam scenario, it reminded the person to contact the 165 anti-fraud hotline or tell a family member.

Connecting existing functions so the AI brain can directly drive robot actions
Vyin RIS was integrated with NUWA Robotics' existing robot platform, linking voice input, AI judgment and decision flows, and the robot's existing voice, expressions, movements, and device controls. The AI does not just generate an answer; it triggers existing functions based on the conversation. For example:
- After detecting persistent risk signals, alerting family through app push notifications
- Understanding times and reminder requests in natural language to create daily schedule reminders
- Combining family members' text messages with Vyin AI voice cloning to play them back in a familiar family voice
These integrations let Vyin RIS draw directly on NUWA Robotics' existing product capabilities, composing new interaction flows for different service scenarios and improving the experience of existing services.

「The Vyin AI team quickly understood the architecture of our existing platform and our product requirements, and genuinely connected the AI capabilities with our existing functions, so we could validate new service scenarios far more efficiently.」
Results
From conversation speed to cross-system tasks, validated in a real-world scenario
AI response time
With Vyin RIS, typical AI response time dropped from about 4 to 5 seconds to under 1 second, reducing the disruption long pauses cause in human-robot interaction.
Cross-system integrations
The collaboration delivered three cross-system applications: risk detection × app push notifications, natural language × daily reminders, and family messages × voice cloning. Together they verify that Vyin RIS can invoke the Kebbi robot's existing functions based on conversation to form a complete service flow.
Turning human-robot conversation into traceable, usable service data
Vyin RIS can organize key signals from conversations into traceable records and write them to the existing back office, as service needs require. In this home companion scenario, health and scam risk signals are flagged with the original conversation preserved as evidence, so caregivers understand the context and the reason for each flag.
This also validates that the same integration approach can define which interaction data to retain for different scenarios, supporting downstream data management and service applications.
